LONE LOCATIONS CHAPTER 10

UNDISCLOSED LOCATION

BODMIN, CORNWALL

16/11/10

HISTORY

I heard about this location from various locals. This building now standing in nearly ruins has had reports of a monk being seen looking out of the window at the top of the ruin.

I approached the owner who had personally never seen anything in the ruin but previous people who had visited the location had reported to him they had seen a figure in the window. One such visitor only a few months ago witnessed a figure waving at her as she got out of her car. When she told her husband it disappeared.

EQUIPMENT

2 camcorders

K-2 meter

INVESTIGATION

I arrived at the location just before 09.00. The weather was cold but dry.Due to the daytime reports this would be my first daytime investigation with a change. I will not be staying with the location only setting up 2 cameras and a K-2 meter and leaving them to run and i will come back to pick the equipment up.

I set the eeuipment up on the 1st floor and 2nd floor and left the location. At aprox 13.00 I returned and collected the equipment. I then went home and reviewed the footage. There was no findings.

CONCLUSION

This was the first time I had not been present on an investigation but this was agreed with the owner who felt more comfortable with this setup. On reviewing both cameras footage there was no evidence of any paranormal activity. After speaking to the owner we are both in agreement that the building is not haunted and alot of the sightings can be down to an owl which lives in the ruin and trick of light.

PENGERSICK CASTLE

PRAA SANDS

CORNWALL

02/2011

HISTORY

After my previous investigation was cut short due some paranormal activity which made me open my eyes and question my ability as an investigator I had to return. This time I will bring along a witness. Jonathan one of the trustees volounteered.

EQUIPMENT

Cut it short everything. The more evidence I get the better.

INVESTIGATION

Myself and Jonathan (the chairman of the Pengersick trust) arrived at the castle at 17.00.

We set up cameras in all of the main rooms of the castle. I also set up the night vision minoculars facing the archway in the garden. This will hopefully capture the figure of the monk who has been seen on a regular basis.

I must admit after the previous investigation at the castle I was alittle nervous but also glad i was returning to face my fears.

Myself and Jonathan spent the evening until 23.00 covering all the rooms. In all this time we witnessed no activity at all.

I had set up a trigger object on the pressure pad alarm. Digital voice recorder was set up in each vigil. K-2 meter was also present.

All these pieces of equipment picked up no activity. We decided to finish early due to the lack of activity.

CONCLUSION

The evening was very quiet. I was glad I returned as to date this is the most haunted place I have visited.

I say this due to the previous investigation which left me terrified.

I had to return to prove to myself that I was not going to be beaten by what ever energy resided in the castle.

I reviewed all footage and listened to hours of audio no results or evidence was found.

I have to go on the previous investigation to say I still think this location to be haunted. As any investigator knows a location can be active on one occassion and quiet on another this is why we carry on spending night after night looking for the paranormal. I will be returning again in the summer.

THE JAMAICA INN

BOLVENTOR, CORNWALL

07/3/11

HISTORY

Previous managers of Jamaica Inn have heard conversations uttered in a foreign tongue. Could this be the Cornish language?

For years there have been many stories of hauntings at Jamaica Inn and recently the Ghost Society has made in-depth investigations and compiled a report based on their findings. The areas of substantial interest to the investigation were, The Smuggler's Bar, The Stable Bar, the restaurant and upstairs in bedroom four.

Murder at the Inn:  Many years ago, a stranger stood at the bar enjoying a tankard of ale. Upon being summoned outside, he left the half finished ale and stepped out into the night. That was the last time he was seen alive. The next morning his corpse was found on the bleak moor but the manner of his death and the identity of his assailant still remain a mystery.

Previous landlords, upon hearing footsteps tramping along the passage to the bar, believe it is the dead man's spirit returning to finish his drink.

Who is the stranger sitting motionless on the wall outside? In 1911 there was much interest and correspondence in the press concerning a strange man who had been seen by many people, sitting on the wall outside the Inn. He neither spoke nor moved nor acknowledged a greeting but his appearance was uncannily like the murdered stranger. Could this be the dead man's ghost? And what strange compulsion drove it to return to the same spot so often?

With such an extensive history, including several centuries of smuggling, Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn is probably closer to the truth than we care to believe. It would explain the clatter of horses hooves on cobbled ground heard in the depths of night...

During the early 1900s the Inn was used as a temperance house but there have always been spirits of a different kind at Jamaica Inn.

On a moonlit night, when all is still, how can any earthly person explain the sound of horses' hooves and the metal rims of wheels turning on the rough cobbles of the courtyard? Yet there is nothing to be seen!Who can explain the uneasy footsteps heard pacing the corridors in the dead of night? Who is the strange man in a tricorne hat and cloak who appears and then walks through solid doors?

EQUIPMENT

Putting it bluntly everything. Every piece of equipment even the night vision minoculars to try and capture the figure of a man who sits outside the inn.

INVESTIGATION

I arrived at the Jamaica inn at 19.30. The weather was cold but clear. A few gusts of wind here or there but otherwise ok.

I decided to concentrate solely on room 5. I decided to leave the room locked off with some trigger objects and a few camcorders running for an hour whilst I went and chatted to a few of the staff team at the bar below. Before I left the room I carried out a test on my audacity EVP system. On reviewing the 15 sec piece of audio I heard a womans voice say very clearly"stop". In my excitement I clicked delete instead of save totally losing the clip.

Aprox 90 mins later I returned to the room and found nothing had been disturbed.

I then made myself comfortable and started running my camcorder. I then had 2 occassions of shuffling sounds coming from the corner of the room by the window. This was over a an hour. Both times I went over to investigate the source of the noise but it would stop.

I then spent several hours carring out EVP sessions and filming. A few times I thought I had seen orbs but on reviewing footage it turned out to be insects and dust particles.

At aprox 13.45 I decided to sleep for a few hours for 2 reasons. First I was very tired after being a college all day had drained me. Also reports from this room by guests have reported that they have been asleep when activity has occured and woken them.

I decided to leave to camcorders running whilst I was asleep.

I then woke aprox 04.00 and packed up and left as I had a full day at work.

CONCLUSION

I really enjoyed my night at the Jamaica Inn. The staff team were really sociable and made me feel welcome. The room was of a high standard.

Looking over my experiences over the night I would have been alittle unsure about saying Room 5 was haunted. The EVP was very good but I have however picked up EVP'S in none haunted locations.

The shuffling noise I could'nt source as soon as I reached the area it had stopped but being an old buiding this could have been anything.

Then we get to footage. I checked all EVP sessions and virtually all footage with no activity until I reviewed a bullet camera I had left rolling whilst I was asleep. At 02.54 a shadow was captured moving very quickly along side the bed and disappearing. What is strange is that I am asleep. The curtains to the bedroom are blackout curtains. These were pulled. Any car that went past the inn did not reflect into the room at all as i had checked this out earlier. The room was in pitch black.

/i//tn_PICT2448.JPG

What ever I captured should not have been in this room. What is also quite interesting is that a spirit of a young girl has been seen in this room and others. I call her a spirit as she appears to interact with people at times.

The footage is impressive and on this piece of evidence alone I have to say room 5 at the Jamaica inn appears to be haunted.

I will return later in the year.

Here is a link for the piece of footage.
