LONE LOCATIONS CHAPTER 8

BERRY TOWER

BODMIN

28/06/10

HISTORY

I discovered this location whilst searching through the internet on haunted locations in Cornwall, Numerous reports of monks being seen in and around the tower. A friend of mine also relayed of stories she had heard when she was a child of these phantom monks that had been seen on a regular basis. I decided to see if i could find evidence of these sightings.

INVESTIGATION

I arrived at the location at 21.45. The weather was overcast with occassional showers. It was a very dark night indeed.

I made my way over to the tower and set up the camcorder etc.

At 22.00 I attempted to try and contact any entitys in the area. I used the K-2 as a communication tool and also the staic meter and the voice recorder whilst I asked out for responses.

The camcorder was running at the same time.

I did not get any responses.

I then walked around the tower and neighbouring graves taking random photos and filming at the sametime. There was no video evidence or photographic evidence.

I decided then about 12.00 to sit down opposite the entrance to the tower. It was really dark  by now and drizzly.

I had been sat down roughly 5mins when had I had a strange experience. I was facing the entarnce to the tower filming in the same direction when what felt like something run very close to me and stopped on my right side.

/i//tn_Pic_0519_136.JPG

As I looked round I saw a black fog/shadow only about 2 to 3 feet in height next to me for not even a second before it disappeared. Was it my tiredness I really don't know. I have been on many investigations before and never come across a similiar occurence.

This did startle me briefly but I decided to cover the area again searching for any visual evidence with no joy.The rain by now had started to come down abit harder.

I went back to the car which was parked opposite the tower and set up the night vision minoculars recording from the car.

I sat here for almost an hour and a half watching out for any signs of activity with no evidence.

Conclusion

To be honest I was slightly dissapointed not that it was a really quiet night but that the experience that occured I had not caught any evidence of it.

Do I think the tower is haunted by Phantom monks?

Not at present I have no evidence for this.

Yes I had the strange experience but the tower is situated in the middle of a graveyard. What ever may have come to my attention may not reside in the tower was a great experience to add to my list of the years.

ROACHE ROCK

CORNWALL

23/07/2010

HISTORY

A chapel, dedicated to St Michael, was built on this rock in 1409 by a hermit. Traditionally a leper is said to have taken refuge here.

The area is reputed to be haunted by a miner, he makes his presence known either by making noises within the chapel, or by a shadow that flits from rock to rock with no earthly presence to cast it.

Also the presence of a woman has been seen and heard around the ruins. Her crying and screams have been witnessed many times.

This investigation was one that as far as I know has never been investigated before.

INVESTIGATION

I arrived at 20.30 at the rock. The weather was overcast and slightly breezy. I decided to start early before the night set in although with the cloud cover it was not far off.

I set up the night vision camcorder and K-2 meter and voice recorder and began trying to communicate with anything in the area.

/i//tn_PICT1742_1.JPG

I noticed in a short space of time how sound travelled from afar and seemed to tunnel its way into the chapel. Almost like having surround sound. On one occassion I thought what I heard was foot steps above me. I climbed the ladder to the top of the ruin to investigate to find nothing. I then noticed 2 people walking across a gravel drive leading to the social club. I could here every step as if it was next to me. It was great to debunk the reported footsteps heard by members of the public who have visited the rock.

I made my way down to my equipment and carried out a EVP session which proved worthless. By this time it was pitch black inside the chapel. I decided to try K-2 contact with any astrol beings with no joy.

I decided it was time to try and debunk the sightings of a woman in white seen and heard screaming around the rock it self.

I left the chapel and positioned myself on a nest of rocks opposite. I set up the nightvision minoculars facing up to the windows of the chapel. There has been witness reports of a figure being seen in the windows.

Within 15mins of setting up I heard what appeared to be a woman screaming not far from me. I went over to investigate to find no signs of anyone. Then I heard a woman shouting again. This time i could make out a woman calling her cat. This appeared to be coming from the nearby housing estate. This was followed by some very drunk women walking up the main road shouting and screaming. I had enough evidence to convince me that the screams etc heard wee not paranormal but what of the white lady being seen. I had the answer. The rock is situated buy a busy main road. On the this road there are speed reducing restrictions. Once a car slows to go into a single pass give way there car lights reflect of the main rock where the chapel

is situated. This then bounces on to smaller rock structures which gives the appearance of what seems to be a possible figure.

The rock itself is made from Tourmaline which is a very reflective rock substance.

Last but not least how do i debunk the figure seen in the window.  I had filmed the windows for almost an hour. I had no figure show up but I think I can explain the sightings.

The chapel itself is a ruin. There is no roof so when you look from the walkway around the chapel you are looking up into windows which has a background of the sky. I noticed that with the cloud as a background and the freak light reflection of the rock at various times gave the appearance of a possible figure in the window. I would think that with foggy conditions this could only be enhanced.

CONCLUSION

This proved to be the shortest but very positive investigation I have been too in relation to finding pratical reasons behind sightings. Every sighting has been debunked.

I only needed 3 hours to prove that there is no paranormal events happing at the rock. It is a really mystical place and anybodys imagination could run wild very easily.

DEAD MANS HUT

PORTREATH, CORNWALL

16/08/10

HISTORY

The building itself was used as a mortuary from the 17th century for all dead bodies that was washed up on the shore. Now it is just a tourists haunt. I was searching through the internet  when I came across a number of websites which had notable witness reports of a smuggler reportidily being seen outside inside the building the mortuary. So whilst we were in the summer I thought I would investigate the building in hopefully warmth!

INVESTIGATION

I arrived in Portreath at 21.45. I made my way up along the harbour and up the steps to the hut.

The weather was mild but very cloudy with the odd shower here and there.

I climbed through the window and set up my equipment. I positioned the K-2 meter and the static meter in the corner of the room and started rolling the camcorder.

/i//tn_PICT2256.JPG

I carried out a session of K-2 communication and static test communication with no results. This was attempted x3 with no results.

I also throughout the night carried out x5 EVP sessions these also provided no results.

I had no personal experiences throughout the night.

I did however notice when I was filming from a certain angle half way down the stone steps leading to the hut that it appeared to show a figure looking out the window. This proved to be a trick of light. The hut has 2 windows and a metal gated doorway. It appeared that natural light would come through the larger of the 2 windows hit the circled wall which would make an image of a figure at the other window. This was a really good illusion it nearly fooled me.

CONCLUSION

I really dont feel there is any paranormal activity occuring here. This is a small area of Cornwall that rumours could spread pretty quickly. The illusion I found could account for many of the reports.
